The World at War?

A comment by Gary Johnston

Most of us don't want to think it is possible, or ever will be. Half the population on the planet have seen what war does to the world and to individuals. The other half have seen it on TV, the pain, the blood, the tears. Few relate to the concept of war and disharmony at a national level. Most choose to turn off to the trauma to protect our own mental stability. Others have de-sensitised themselves to a point they are totally unaffected by the horror of people being blown to pieces.

It will happen again, on a global basis. It will devastate a large part of the world and kill millions. The initial weapons are words. They are being fired right now, even as you read this. The words will be based on religious history and zealotry. These words will create great anger in a couple of small communities and then spread to related communities and other countries that support the religious beliefs of the seeds. Conventional weapons will then open the door to hell on earth.

After a short period, probably only a year or two of more and more heated exchanges and a growing pile of bodies and distraught families, an order will be given to use either nuclear weapons or biological agents. Either way, the results will be devastating, unless..........................

How can I predict this with such clarity? I am no seer or prophet. We only need to look at humankind and its imprinted history, relate our current emotional state to the past cycles, and you have the answer.

The human race has a pathetic self image. This applies to countries, religions and genders as much as individuals. We crave any opportunity to build up our self image, often at the expense of others. We grab almost any idea or group that makes us feel as though we are part of something valuable or important rather than take responsibility for our own behaviour and abilities. The behaviour of many when they join a religion or become part of an elitist and adopt a set of irrational rules and beliefs tends to create irrational and dangerous behaviours.

Take a look at the history of war. The dogs of war have always used perceived superiority as a trigger for conflict. By manipulating a religious group or a sector of society into believing it was being attacked, verbally, socially or economically, it doesn't take much to light the fires.

Take a look around your society and the conflicts around the world.

In virtually every society the levels of anger in the collective unconscious are increasing quickly. Violence is increasing openly, within families, social groups and religions. The dogs of war continue to ferment small conflicts to keep their industry alive and profitable. And the growing conflicts in between Islamic countries, the Jews and other western groups are on the increase. Everyone struggles to prove they are better than everyone else.

I don't like to judge, but how bloody stupid and regressive can we get! We look down on wild animals that kill for food as being unevolved. At least they do it to fulfil a survival mechanism to eat. They kill once and eat. They don't kill to make themselves feel more important. They don't kill because they believe their god is better than someone else's. They don't kill because some self involved fool decided to write down a claim of superiority over other groups or individuals and was followed blindly by millions of equally stupid people.

But I'm only little me, I can't do anything to stop it!

Yes you can. Your involvement in the solution is just as important as anyone else. Let me explain.........

The anger and tendency to collective warlike behaviour is based on emotional content of the social collective unconscious. Each of us is an integral part of the whole. Our own emotional memory is connected to everyone else's, so our own beliefs and emotions also affect others around us, as theirs do us. By modifying our own angers, guilts and fears, we dissipate a small part of the emotions that create conflict.

If enough of us take that responsibility and make the change for ourselves the sheer weight of numbers will defuse the negative energy of the collective.

Every man, woman and child has a role to play in the future of the  human race. The Fellowship of Peace was formed to do just that by:

  • removing the mystique of the power mongers in the major religions and social groups
  • teaching skills to defuse negative and destructive emotional reactiveness.
  • teaching skills to allow you to feel good about your own abilities, looks and understanding, and taking responsibility for your own actions
  • teaching the skill of living NOW
